If you want the real step by step you have come to the right place.
This is a way to set up a simple wireless access point for file sharing.
This was written in the simplest manner, even an ex-mac user like me can understand.
Any laptop with a Atheros chip set wifi card. I use an Acer Aspire 7730z circa 2008?
Setting up your own public anonymous file server.
This assumes you know how to burn a disk or a thumb drive.

Next do not update!
Open terminal and type: sudo su, then password, then PirateBoxManager

You will be given a list of choices, start with “Just download scripts”
and reboot. When done rebooting, reopen terminal type: PirateBoxManager (hit enter)
Then select 1) First Setup and away we go!
Your will see a line that says, rm: cannot remove ‘ /opt/piratebox/share/tmp*’ : No such file or directory. You can ignore this.
This means of course you will have a second computer with wifi
select piratebox:freeshare form second computer wifi menu (this may take a minute)
Disconnect your Ethernet from menu (wired connection) and connect to piratebox:free share only.
Open your browser, and you should see this. Yes it works!
